DIY Date Night: A Wine Making Party For Two
The last time J and I went out for Valentines Day we ended up sitting at a tiny table at a french bistro surrounded by what seemed to be 100 other couples. We'd gotten all dressed up, only to be unable to hear each other talk. Romantic? I think not. For the past few years we've decided to skip the unpredicatbility of a night out on Valentines Day, and opt for lavish food, great wine and fun activities at home. On the agenda for this year? A wine making party for two!
When my friends at Craft a Brew reached out to me about a wine making kit, I knew it was the perfect Valentines Day date night activity. Everything you need to make the wine comes in the kit, complete with a step-by-step guidebook for those of us who aren't natural born vintners. And, there's a wine for everyone. We chose to make the Chardonnay (it's J's fav), but they also have a Merlot, Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Savignon. The best part? Once the wine is finished it fills 5 bottles!
What You'll Need:
1 Wine Making Kit from Craft a Brew
5 750 ml bottles (I ordered mine online)
1 large bucket or bowl to sanitize your materials
How to Make Your Own Wine:
The kit comes with easy to follow step-by-step instructions. And, the entire process takes about 4 weeks, but each of the four main steps below takes about 30 minutes to an hour maximum.
Step one: Mix Juice and Yeast
Step two: Ferment for two weeks
Step three: Degas and add clarifiers
Step four: Bottle and enjoy!
J and I just finished up step one and had so much fun making it. On Valentines Day, we'll be starting the clarifying process as part of our at-home date night. I hope you and your guy enjoy it just as much as we have!
XO,
K
