Mid-Century Modern Living and Lounge Space

The one thing that nobody tells you when you buy your first home is just how long it takes to feel like it’s “complete.” We’ve been in our house for 7 months, and we’re just starting to feel like we’re getting close to being finished decorating our space. Though, knowing me I’ll always find some form of a new project to work on…

I’m convinced that there’s one room in each home that you never quite know what to do with. Maybe it’s a bonus room upstairs, a small nook just off an entryway or a little corner that nothing quite fits in. When it comes to our home, it’s the lower level. Technically we have three designated “living spaces” in our house + a spare bedroom upstairs. We left the second guest bedroom open for now, converted one living space to an office and made one into the comfortable family room we shared here. But the lower level honestly just fell to the side. We put all of our old apartment furniture there, but it never quite fit just right. Until recently, that is.

We found a few new rugs, some new pillows and décor pieces that have transformed it into the mid-century chic living/lounge space of our dreams. I’ve shared a bit of our updates on IG stories, but here I’m spilling all the details on where we purchased our furniture and décor. Pinterest was crazy helpful in designing this space, and the bar area that it attaches to, so if you need a little extra inspo make sure to follow me there.

FURNITURE

I always like to stick to neutrals when it comes to the furniture of any room, because it makes it easier to switch it up later. Our couch and coffee tableare from Room and Board (similar here and here) and our side chair is from Kittle’s Furniture (similar here).

DÉCOR AND RUGS

We carried the theme of woods and blacks that you seen throughout our home into the basement in the form of a console tablecoasters and a side table (on sale). And, finally we tied it all together with this oversized black rug and this bright white patterned rug. I LOVE layering rugs, and thought that these two complimented one another perfectly.

Well, there you have it! Our lower level has come a really longggg way from where it started, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!

What do you think? Do you have a space that you haven’t quite figured out what to do with? Or, that you’ve turned into a useable room? Would love to hear what has worked for you and any questions about our design process for this space.

Stay tuned for more home décor unveils coming soon…

XO, K
