Our Coziest Winter Home Decor Tips
The holidays are over and all of our sparkly lights and ornament-filled trees are packed away, but it's still freezing outside, and the house is feeling a bit bare without our Christmas Decor. Instead of leaving our home a blank slate until spring and summer roll around, and the plants come back out, we're adding cozy, neutral winter elements around the house.
After Christmas, we all go through a bit of a "winter blues funk". You know... That underwhelming feeling during the biggest lull of the year. The sun disappears in the afternoon, it's freezing and we're all working off those extra cookies we indulged in over the holiday season. For me, brightening up the space around me always lifts my mood. So, today i'm sharing a few of the tips that J and I use to keep our house filled with cheer and our minds a little warmer during the dark days of winter.
Add Texture
My number one tips for after-Christmas winter decor is to pile on the texture. No, really. PILE IT UP. I never really realize just how many pillows and throw blankets I have until the winter months. J always says that I pull them out from nowhere. I toss pillows and poufs around for cozy lounge spots on the ground and layer chunky and furry throw blanks for an extra pop of comfort. This is my current favorite throw (it goes everywhere) and I love the addition of these black and white fur pillows to our space.
Light it Up
Do I really need to share my love of candles one more time? hah. They're all over our house, but there is no time of year that I like them better than in those snow-filled winter months. I hate how the sun disappears so quickly, but make up for it by lighting our house with the soft, warm glow of candles. And, hey, it doesn't smell bad either. I have a serious love of DW candles lately. They smell great and are really affordable too! I also got some Diptyque candles for Christmas that smell better than ANYTHING I have.
Get Winter Greenery
You know all that Christmas greenery you packed your house with at Christmas? Repurpose it! I take some of my garland and wreath accents and use them to replace my cacti this time of year to bring winter into my home! My favorite addition is without a doubt the use of birch wood, it's light but works perfectly with winter weather!
Boost your Bright Whites
Bright whites look gorgeous agains fresh fallen snow, so I always throw in white pillows, candles and decor to reflect the weather outside. I can't wait to see how this rug in our lower lounge will look with fresh fallen snow outside!
