Three Simple Ways to Decorate for Valentine's Day

We've been celebrating Valentine's Day together since '10. Some have been fancy nights out and others have involved camping out in front of a TV in tiny 550 square ft apartment. But, this year is special because it will be our first year celebrating in our own home, which has brought about a whole new meaning to the day.

Valentine's day decor is tough. If you're like me, you want to get festive, but you also don't want to break the bank on decorating your home like you do for Christmas, or in the Fall. Plus, no one really wants hearts exploding all over their house, right? This year, i've found a more subtle way to decorate our space that feels festive, but isn't overwhelming. And, I'm so excited to share a few rooms and tips with you!

Our Tips for Valentine's Day Decor

Opt for Accents

The cardinal rule for decorating for any holiday should be to work with what you have. Seriously, I won't even go near a Target or Home Goods until i've taken a full survey of the things I already own that could be used in a new way. I spend even more time on this for smaller holidays, like Valentines Day, St. Patrick's Day or the Fourth of July.

Let me just say, that surveying all the pink or blush accents I have, helped immensely when decorating our house this year for February 14th! Blush is our accent color, so we have tons of blankets, vases, pillows and candles in that color. I moved a few around and pulled some additional accents out to really give our house a pop of that Valentines Day Pink. Don't have traditional valentines day colors? Invest in a few decorative accents in reds so that you can repurpose them for Christmas too!

Fancy it up with Florals

I'm a flowers kind of girl, so we almost always have them around our house. This time of year I head to Trader Joe's and stock up on roses, pink hydrangeas and more to use them as an accent piece around the house. I love the smell, and it almost tricks you into believing it's spring. ALMOST.

If you're looking to go even fancier, try ordering a few big arrangements online! The flowers pictured here are from FTD, who i've loved for years!

Sweeten Your Space

I was recently over at a friend's house, and she had the BEST selection of Valentine's Day Candy sitting out on her Kitchen Counter. I thought it was the sweetest little touch of Valentine's Decor! It's not only cost effective, but also a great way to get visitors in the Valentine's Day mood!

I headed out to Target to grab a few Valentine's Day candies, and the entire total was under $10. Try styling them in pink, red and white bowls to give it that extra Valentine's Day touch!
