Best Indoor Plants for Beginners

Most of my life I considered myself to have a black thumb. I had zero faith in my plant mom abilities, and resorted to stocking my house full of Faux Plants. This came after a poor succulent got burned to a crisp and a Fiddle Leaf Fig lost all but one leaf. RIP.

After the many plant deaths that succumbed to my black thumb, I was hesitant to give plant parenthood another shot. But, when Jordon and I moved into our home last year, I knew that I just had to grab a few and pray for the best. Fast forward to today, and I now have 15+ thriving house plants. Why the switch? I took time to read up on each plant I purchased and found plants that fit our lifestyle.

I love the decorative flair that our plants add to our home, but even more so I love how healthy and happy that make me! It has been proven that houseplants help eliminate toxins in the air, reduce stress and boost your mood. They're also natural humidifiers, which is especially handy during the dry winter months we deal with here in Indiana.

But, making the decision to become a plant parent shouldn't be done without a bit of research. And, that's where I hope this guide will come in handy. If you're new to plants and gardening, here is a selection of easy-to-keep-alive plants that will suit you perfectly.

Monstera

Monstera Plants make such a great statement piece, are inexpensive, and tend to grow relatively quickly. They're also easy to grab a cutting from to start a second plant.

Pothos

These plants are so easy to care for, and seem to sprout new leaves weekly. They're great in hanging planters and will create an ivy like look! Be careful to keep them away from dogs - they can be toxic!

Snake Plant

I don't personally have a real snake plant. But, it's next on my list because they are impossible to kill and give off a ton of oxygen at night to purify your air.

Aloe Vera

I didn't know how much I would love my aloe vera until I bought it. It lives on our porch (and loves sun) in the summer and it's grown to be MASSIVE.

If you're thinking of becoming a plant parent, I can't recommend any of the above enough! My personal favorite is my Golden Pothos and my Monstera because they have the world's best leaves.
